Handwoven in Morocco by Amazigh women artisans in our own cooperative, this one-of-a-kind textile artwork is part of an original creative concept developed by Kenza & Co to bring traditional Moroccan weaving into a new artistic format.
We wanted to explore another way of experiencing the beauty of a handmade Berber rug: not only as a textile for the floor, but as an individual artwork designed to be displayed and appreciated on the wall.
The rug is woven entirely by hand from 100% natural sheep wool using traditional Moroccan techniques and weaving knowledge passed down through generations.
This particular piece features a warm natural ivory background filled with an expressive arrangement of small geometric and symbolic motifs in red, cobalt blue, pink, orange, green, brown and black.
Rather than following a strict repeated pattern, the composition develops freely across the surface. Diamonds, linear forms, small abstract figures and irregular color blocks appear almost like a visual language, giving the textile a rich and highly individual character.
A vivid red border frames the composition, while the handmade fringe remains visible along the lower edge, preserving the original identity of the rug.
Once woven, the textile is carefully mounted inside a solid walnut wood frame with a deep black finish. Walnut was chosen for its strength, durability and long-lasting quality, while the dark finish gives the artwork a strong contemporary presence and creates a dramatic contrast with the natural wool and vivid colors.
The handmade edges and fringe remain visible rather than being concealed behind the frame.
A discreet hanging fixture is already installed on the back, so the artwork arrives ready to hang directly on the wall.
The result sits naturally between traditional Moroccan weaving, contemporary textile art and collectible wall art.
What It Brings to Your Home
This piece brings color, storytelling and handcrafted character into a room without feeling overly graphic or rigid.
The natural ivory wool keeps the overall composition warm and balanced, while the many small areas of red, blue, pink, orange, green and brown create movement and visual discovery.
Unlike a large-scale geometric design, this piece invites you to look closer. The eye moves from one motif to another, revealing different shapes, textures and color combinations across the surface.
From a distance, it reads as a richly layered abstract artwork. Up close, the individual knots, changing pile and irregular geometry reveal the human hand behind every detail.
The black-finished frame gives the colorful composition definition and allows the textile itself to remain the focal point.
It works beautifully as a stand-alone artwork above a console, sideboard, bed or smaller sofa, and is particularly effective in interiors where a single piece of art is intended to bring personality, color and warmth to an otherwise calm space.
More Than Wall Art — A Human Connection
This collection was created by Kenza & Co as a new way of celebrating Moroccan rug weaving while preserving the human story behind every piece.
Each textile is slowly handwoven in our own cooperative by Amazigh women artisans using techniques and knowledge transmitted between generations. There is no industrial production, digital printing or mechanical repetition involved.
Every line, motif, shift in color and irregularity reflects the hands and creative decisions of the woman who made it.
In this particular piece, that individuality is especially visible. The many small geometric forms are not mechanically copied or perfectly repeated. They develop naturally through the weaving process, creating a composition that feels almost like a personal visual vocabulary.
By bringing the rug from the floor to the wall, these details become even more visible. The motifs, color transitions, wool texture and fringe can be appreciated almost as you would observe the marks and details within an original painting.
Through this creative project, we wanted to offer a contemporary expression of Moroccan textile art while continuing to support the artisans and families behind the craft and helping traditional weaving remain a living skill.
The use of natural sheep wool also maintains an important connection to the Moroccan landscape and to the materials that have sustained this textile tradition for generations.
Every textile develops differently on the loom, and every finished artwork is individually selected, mounted and framed.
