A striking large handmade Moroccan wool rug with an unusually bold, contemporary composition. Deep emerald green dominates the design, contrasted with natural ivory wool and expressive black geometric lines.

The pattern feels almost architectural: oversized diamonds, elongated angular forms, fragmented lines and abstract shapes overlap and interact across the surface. It is a rug with a strong visual identity — closer to a piece of textile art than a conventional repeating Moroccan pattern.

Design & Composition

This piece stands out for its large-scale abstract geometry.

Rather than relying on a regular all-over pattern, the artisan has constructed the rug through overlapping geometric fields. Large green areas are interrupted by ivory negative space, black linear structures, diamonds, angular pathways and smaller floating shapes.

The upper section is especially graphic, with dramatic black-and-ivory forms descending into the central green field. Toward the lower part, the composition becomes more open, allowing the natural wool background and elongated black lines to create visual breathing room.

The result has a distinctly modernist and artistic character while remaining rooted in Moroccan hand-weaving traditions.

Texture

The detailed photograph reveals the character of the hand-knotted wool beautifully.

Different sections have subtle variations in pile density and texture, while the black outlines and smaller colored details are physically woven into the structure of the rug rather than printed onto its surface.

These irregularities are part of its handmade nature and make the composition considerably richer when viewed up close.
