A distinctive handmade Beni Ouarain rug that explores traditional Moroccan weaving through a highly contemporary, architectural composition. Rather than relying on contrasting colors, the artisan creates the entire design through different pile heights and exposed flat-weave sections, allowing texture, relief and shadow to define the pattern.

The composition is especially striking: concentric rectangular lines frame the rug and lead toward a central panel combining horizontal and diagonal raised bands. It has an almost sculptural quality while retaining the irregularity and warmth of a piece made entirely by hand.

Each rug is:

  • Handwoven by Amazigh (Berber) artisans
  • Made from 100% natural sheep wool
  • Woven on a traditional Berber loom
  • Individually knotted and finished by hand
  • Created using traditional Moroccan weaving techniques
  • Completely unique

No mass production — only authentic Berber craftsmanship.

Color Palette

A beautifully restrained monochromatic palette:

  • Natural ivory
  • Warm cream
  • Soft oatmeal tones from the exposed woven foundation

The subtle tonal variations come naturally from the wool and the different weaving techniques rather than from contrasting colors.

Design & Texture

This rug is defined by its high-low geometric construction.

Raised wool lines form a series of nested rectangular frames, while the central section introduces horizontal bands that transition into rhythmic diagonal lines. Between them, sections of flatter weaving remain visible, creating depth and emphasizing the hand-knotted pile.

The design changes subtly depending on the light: shadows along the raised wool make the geometry more pronounced in directional sunlight, while softer interior lighting gives the rug a calmer, almost monochromatic appearance.

The slight variations in line width and alignment are particularly important — they reveal the hand of the artisan and distinguish the piece from mechanically produced geometric rugs.

Interior Style Compatibility

An excellent choice for:

  • Organic modern interiors
  • Minimalist spaces
  • Japandi
  • Wabi-sabi
  • Scandinavian design
  • Contemporary Mediterranean interiors
  • Modern rustic homes
  • Quiet luxury
  • Neutral interiors

Its sculptural texture works particularly well alongside natural wood, linen, bouclé, stone, travertine, limewash and microcement.

Dimensions

240 × 145 cm
Approx. 7'10" × 4'9"

Its slightly narrower proportion makes it particularly versatile for bedrooms, smaller living rooms, reading areas, home offices or spaces where a standard wide rug would feel oversized.

Minor variations in dimensions and geometry are natural characteristics of a genuinely handmade piece.

A Contemporary Expression of Berber Weaving

What makes this rug particularly interesting is the way the artisan creates visual complexity using essentially one natural color.

There is no printed pattern and no need for strong contrasting dyes. Instead, the composition emerges from wool itself: raised pile, flat-weave negative space, geometric repetition and the shadows created between them.

The result feels simultaneously Berber and architectural, tactile and minimalist — a rug capable of bringing character to a neutral interior without overwhelming the room.
