Handwoven in Morocco by Amazigh women artisans in our own cooperative, this one-of-a-kind textile artwork is part of an original creative concept developed by Kenza & Co to bring traditional Moroccan weaving into a new artistic format.
We wanted to explore another way of experiencing the beauty of a handmade Berber rug: not only as a textile for the floor, but as an individual artwork designed to be displayed and appreciated on the wall.
The rug is woven entirely by hand from 100% natural sheep wool using traditional Moroccan techniques and weaving knowledge passed down through generations.
This particular piece features a warm natural ivory background animated by a bold free-form composition of terracotta, pale blue, cobalt blue, soft lavender, yellow and vivid pink.
Large irregular blocks overlap and interact across the surface without following strict symmetry. The dominant terracotta form gives the composition warmth and visual weight, while the cooler blues introduce contrast and balance. The bright pink and yellow shapes at the lower section add an unexpected contemporary accent.
The changing edges, uneven proportions and subtle differences in pile are part of the artisan's creative process. Nothing is mechanically reproduced, giving the textile the spontaneous quality of an abstract painting translated into wool.
Its original handmade edges and fringe remain visible, preserving the identity and character of the rug.
Once woven, the textile is carefully mounted inside a solid walnut wood frame. Walnut was chosen for its strength, durability, beautiful natural grain and timeless character. Its warm brown tone connects naturally with the terracotta wool while giving the piece a refined, gallery-like presence.
A discreet hanging fixture is already installed on the back, so the artwork arrives ready to hang directly on the wall.
The result sits naturally between traditional Moroccan weaving, contemporary textile art and sculptural wall decoration.
This artwork brings warmth and color into a room while retaining the tactile, natural character of handmade wool.
The terracotta creates an earthy foundation, while the blue tones add freshness and depth. Small areas of yellow and vivid pink introduce a more playful and unexpected energy.
From a distance, the large irregular shapes read almost like an abstract modernist painting. Up close, the thick wool pile, uneven contours and individual knots reveal the craftsmanship behind the composition.
The walnut frame adds another warm natural material and gives the textile enough visual structure to stand confidently as a finished artwork.
It works beautifully in neutral interiors built around cream, beige, plaster, stone or natural wood, where its colors can become a distinctive focal point without overwhelming the space.
Displayed above a console, sideboard, bed or smaller sofa, it brings together color, texture and the warmth of Moroccan craftsmanship in a single piece.
This collection was created by Kenza & Co as a new way of celebrating Moroccan rug weaving while preserving the human story behind every piece.
Each textile is slowly handwoven in our own cooperative by Amazigh women artisans using techniques and knowledge transmitted between generations. There is no industrial production, digital printing or mechanical repetition involved.
Every shape, change in color and irregular contour reflects the hands and creative decisions of the woman who made it.
This particular composition makes that creative freedom especially visible. The blocks do not follow a predetermined mathematical pattern. They develop naturally on the loom, allowing color, proportion and placement to evolve throughout the weaving process.
By bringing the rug from the floor to the wall, these details become even more visible. The wool, changing pile, irregular geometry and handmade fringe can be appreciated almost as you would observe the brushwork and texture of an original painting.
Through this creative project, we wanted to offer a contemporary expression of Moroccan textile art while continuing to support the artisans and families behind the craft and helping traditional weaving remain a living skill.
The use of natural sheep wool also maintains an important connection to the Moroccan landscape and to the materials that have sustained this textile tradition for generations.
Every textile develops differently on the loom, and every finished artwork is individually selected, mounted and framed.
There is only one. Once sold, this exact artwork cannot be reproduced.
Natural ivory wool with terracotta, pale blue, cobalt blue, soft lavender, yellow and vivid pink accents, framed in warm walnut wood.
A warm and expressive palette combining earthy tones with cooler blues and unexpected flashes of saturated color.
The terracotta and walnut create a grounded base, while the brighter accents bring freshness and a distinctly contemporary character.
Especially suited to contemporary, modern organic, Mediterranean, artistic, eclectic, modernist and Scandinavian interiors.
It pairs beautifully with walnut, oak, travertine, limestone, plaster walls, microcement, linen, bouclé, ceramics and natural leather.
The terracotta works naturally with warm woods and earthy materials, while the blues create a beautiful contrast against beige and stone. The pink and yellow accents can also connect subtly with artwork, books, ceramics or other decorative objects within the room.
Its bold abstract composition works particularly well alongside sculptural and modernist furniture, where it can function almost like a textile painting.
