Handwoven in Morocco by Amazigh women artisans in our own cooperative, this one-of-a-kind textile artwork is part of an original creative concept developed by Kenza & Co to bring traditional Moroccan weaving into a new artistic format.
We wanted to explore another way of experiencing the beauty of a handmade Berber rug: not only as a textile for the floor, but as an individual artwork designed to be displayed and appreciated on the wall.
The rug is woven entirely by hand from 100% natural sheep wool using traditional Moroccan techniques and weaving knowledge passed down through generations.
This particular piece features a warm natural ivory base interrupted by broad areas of earthy brown, vivid pink and burnt orange. A continuous black line moves freely through the composition, creating an organic abstract form that gives the piece a strong sense of movement.
The contrast between the large blocks of color and the irregular black contour makes the design feel contemporary and almost figurative, while still remaining completely open to interpretation.
The handwoven surface gives each colored area a different visual depth. Subtle variations in pile, line thickness and geometry reveal the artisan's hand and ensure that the composition can never be reproduced exactly.
Its original handmade fringe remains visible along the lower edge, preserving the textile identity of the rug.
Once woven, the piece is carefully mounted inside a solid walnut wood frame with a deep black finish. Walnut was chosen for its strength, durability and long-lasting quality, while the dark finish creates a striking contrast with the warm ivory wool and bold colored areas.
A discreet hanging fixture is already installed on the back, so the artwork arrives ready to hang directly on the wall.
The result sits naturally between traditional Moroccan weaving, contemporary textile art and abstract wall art.
What It Brings to Your Home
This artwork brings strong visual character into a room while maintaining the warmth and softness of natural wool.
The ivory background keeps the composition grounded, while the brown introduces an earthy note, the burnt orange adds warmth and the vivid pink creates a more unexpected contemporary accent.
The black line ties the entire composition together, giving the artwork movement and structure without making it feel rigid.
From a distance, the piece can read almost like a modern abstract painting. Up close, the thick wool pile, changing textures and handmade irregularities reveal the craftsmanship behind every section.
The deep black frame adds definition and makes the warmer colors appear even more vivid.
It works especially well in neutral interiors, where the pink and orange can become strong focal points, but it also blends naturally with warm woods, stone, ceramics and earthy decorative elements.
More Than Wall Art — A Human Connection
This collection was created by Kenza & Co as a new way of celebrating Moroccan rug weaving while preserving the human story behind every piece.
Each textile is slowly handwoven in our own cooperative by Amazigh women artisans using techniques and knowledge transmitted between generations. There is no industrial production, digital printing or mechanical repetition involved.
Every line, shape and transition of color reflects the hands and creative decisions of the woman who made it.
In this particular piece, that creative freedom is especially visible. The large blocks of color and flowing black lines do not follow a rigid template. They develop naturally on the loom, giving the artwork the spontaneity and individuality of an original composition.
By bringing the rug from the floor to the wall, these details become even more visible. The wool, color transitions, irregular geometry and fringe can be appreciated almost as you would observe the brushwork and texture of a painting.
Through this creative project, we wanted to offer a contemporary expression of Moroccan textile art while continuing to support the artisans and families behind the craft and helping traditional weaving remain a living skill.
The use of natural sheep wool also maintains an important connection to the Moroccan landscape and to the materials that have sustained this textile tradition for generations.
Every textile develops differently on the loom, and every finished artwork is individually selected, mounted and framed.
