Handwoven in Morocco by Amazigh women artisans in our own cooperative, this one-of-a-kind textile artwork is part of an original creative concept developed by Kenza & Co to bring traditional Moroccan weaving into a new artistic format.
We wanted to explore another way of experiencing the beauty of a handmade Berber rug: not only as a textile for the floor, but as an individual artwork designed to be displayed and appreciated on the wall.
The rug is woven entirely by hand from 100% natural sheep wool using traditional Moroccan techniques and weaving knowledge passed down through generations.
This particular piece is defined by a bold composition of burnt orange, mustard yellow, soft pink, ivory, black and earthy brown. Large blocks of color are crossed by irregular black lines that move freely across the textile, creating an expressive abstract composition with a distinctly modern character.
The generous orange and mustard sections give the piece warmth and visual impact, while the pink and ivory areas soften the palette. Smaller black, brown and patterned details introduce contrast and make the composition more complex the closer you look.
Nothing follows perfect symmetry or mechanical repetition. The changing proportions, irregular lines and unexpected intersections are part of the artisan's creative process, giving the textile the spontaneity of an original artwork.
Its original handmade edges and multicolor fringe remain visible, preserving the identity and tactile character of the rug.
Once woven, the textile is carefully mounted inside a solid walnut wood frame. Walnut was chosen for its strength, durability, beautiful natural grain and timeless character. Its warm brown tone connects naturally with the earthy palette of the rug while giving the finished piece a refined, gallery-like presence.
A discreet hanging fixture is already installed on the back, so the artwork arrives ready to hang directly on the wall.
The result sits naturally between traditional Moroccan weaving, contemporary textile art and abstract wall art.
What It Brings to Your Home
This piece brings warmth, color and strong artistic character into a room.
The burnt orange and mustard yellow create an immediate sense of warmth, while the soft pink introduces an unexpected softer note. Black lines give the composition structure and movement, preventing the larger areas of color from feeling static.
From a distance, the artwork has the presence of a bold contemporary abstract painting. Up close, the thick wool, individual knots, changing pile and irregular woven surface reveal the craftsmanship behind every section.
The natural walnut frame complements the warm palette beautifully and helps the textile feel integrated rather than simply framed.
It is particularly effective in neutral interiors, where its orange and yellow tones can become a strong focal point, but it also works naturally in spaces built around warm woods, stone, terracotta and earthy colors.
Displayed above a console, sideboard, bed or smaller sofa, it brings together color, texture and the tactile warmth of handmade Moroccan weaving.
More Than Wall Art — A Human Connection
This collection was created by Kenza & Co as a new way of celebrating Moroccan rug weaving while preserving the human story behind every piece.
Each textile is slowly handwoven in our own cooperative by Amazigh women artisans using techniques and knowledge transmitted between generations. There is no industrial production, digital printing or mechanical repetition involved.
Every line, block of color and irregular transition reflects the hands and creative decisions of the woman who made it.
In this particular piece, that freedom is especially visible. The large areas of orange, mustard and pink do not follow a rigid predetermined grid. The composition develops naturally on the loom, allowing shapes, lines and proportions to evolve throughout the weaving process.
By bringing the rug from the floor to the wall, these details become even more visible. The wool, changing colors, irregular geometry and handmade fringe can be appreciated almost as you would observe the brushwork and texture of an original painting.
Through this creative project, we wanted to offer a contemporary expression of Moroccan textile art while continuing to support the artisans and families behind the craft and helping traditional weaving remain a living skill.
The use of natural sheep wool also maintains an important connection to the Moroccan landscape and to the materials that have sustained this textile tradition for generations.
Every textile develops differently on the loom, and every finished artwork is individually selected, mounted and framed.
