Handwoven in Morocco by Amazigh women artisans in our own cooperative, this one-of-a-kind textile artwork is part of an original creative concept developed by Kenza & Co to bring traditional Moroccan weaving into a new artistic format.
We wanted to explore another way of experiencing the beauty of a handmade Berber rug: not only as a textile for the floor, but as an individual artwork designed to be displayed and appreciated on the wall.
The rug is woven entirely by hand from 100% natural sheep wool using traditional Moroccan techniques and weaving knowledge passed down through generations.
This particular piece is defined by an intense cobalt blue composition set against a natural ivory base. Irregular lines and open areas of undyed wool move through the saturated blue surface, creating an abstract pattern that feels spontaneous, expressive and almost painterly.
The design does not follow mechanical symmetry. Variations in the thickness of the blue forms, the exposed ivory areas and the density of the wool are part of the artisan's hand and give the textile its distinctive character.
The handmade fringe is particularly beautiful in this piece, combining ivory and cobalt blue threads and giving the lower edge an additional decorative rhythm.
Once woven, the textile is carefully mounted inside a solid walnut wood frame. Walnut was chosen for its strength, durability, naturally rich grain and timeless character. Its warm brown tone creates a striking contrast with the vivid blue wool while giving the artwork a substantial, gallery-like presence.
The original handmade edges and fringe remain fully visible, allowing the rug to preserve its textile identity rather than being hidden behind the frame.
A discreet hanging fixture is already installed on the back, so the artwork arrives ready to hang directly on the wall.
The result sits naturally between traditional Moroccan weaving, contemporary textile art and sculptural wall decoration.
This is a piece for interiors that need color without losing sophistication.
The cobalt blue immediately draws the eye, but the natural ivory details and warm walnut frame soften its intensity, allowing the artwork to feel expressive rather than overwhelming.
From a distance, the composition has the presence of a large abstract artwork. Up close, the depth of the wool, irregular handwoven surface and visible natural fibers reveal an entirely different experience based on texture and craftsmanship.
The blue also changes subtly depending on the light, making the surface feel especially alive throughout the day.
It can become a strong focal point above a console, sideboard, bed or smaller sofa, or introduce an unexpected burst of color into an otherwise neutral interior.
In rooms dominated by cream, beige, stone, plaster or natural woods, this artwork creates an immediate visual contrast while maintaining the warmth and tactile quality associated with handmade Moroccan textiles.
This collection was created by Kenza & Co as a new way of celebrating Moroccan rug weaving while preserving the human story behind every piece.
Each textile is slowly handwoven in our own cooperative by Amazigh women artisans using techniques and knowledge transmitted between generations. There is no industrial production, digital printing or mechanical repetition involved.
Every variation in color, every irregular line and every change in the surface of the wool reflects the hands of the woman who created it.
In a design as expressive as this one, that human presence becomes especially visible. The cobalt forms have not been digitally generated or perfectly repeated; they emerge gradually through the weaving process, giving the artwork a spontaneity that could never be reproduced exactly.
By moving the textile from the floor to the wall, these details become even more visible. The knots, fibers, geometry and fringe can be appreciated almost as you would observe the brushstrokes and surface of a painting.
Through this creative project, we wanted to offer a contemporary expression of Moroccan textile art while continuing to support the artisans and families behind the craft and helping traditional weaving remain a living skill.
The natural sheep wool also maintains an important connection to the Moroccan landscape and to the materials that have sustained this textile tradition for generations.
Every textile develops differently on the loom, and every finished artwork is individually selected, mounted and framed.
There is only one. Once sold, this exact artwork cannot be reproduced.
Intense cobalt blue with natural ivory details, framed in warm walnut wood.
A striking combination in which saturated blue meets the softness of natural wool and the warmth of wood.
The ivory openings throughout the composition prevent the blue from feeling flat, giving the surface movement, depth and a distinctly handmade quality.
Especially suited to contemporary, modern organic, Mediterranean, eclectic, artistic, Scandinavian and modernist interiors.
It pairs beautifully with walnut, oak, travertine, limestone, plaster walls, microcement, linen, bouclé, ceramics and natural leather.
The cobalt blue is particularly effective in interiors built around warm neutrals, where it can act as a strong accent color. It also works beautifully alongside terracotta, ochre, natural stone and darker woods.
Its expressive abstract composition makes it especially suitable for interiors with sculptural furniture and carefully curated objects, where it can function almost like a textile painting.
