Handwoven in Morocco by Amazigh women artisans in our own cooperative, this one-of-a-kind textile artwork is part of an original creative concept developed by Kenza & Co to bring traditional Moroccan weaving into a new artistic format.
We wanted to explore another way of experiencing the beauty of a handmade Berber rug: not only as a textile for the floor, but as an individual artwork designed to be displayed and appreciated on the wall.
The rug is woven entirely by hand from 100% natural sheep wool using traditional Moroccan techniques and weaving knowledge passed down through generations.
This particular piece features a warm natural ivory background covered with a striking composition of black geometric motifs. Diamond forms, zigzag lines and smaller symbolic details move across the textile in an irregular rhythm, creating a design that feels graphic and structured while retaining the freedom of genuine handweaving.
The lower half is dominated by an interconnected diamond lattice, while the upper section becomes more open and decorative, with smaller motifs distributed across the surface. The contrast between these two areas gives the piece a beautiful sense of balance and movement.
Its light blue handmade fringe adds an unexpected touch of color to the otherwise neutral composition, creating a subtle contemporary detail.
Nothing is mechanically repeated or perfectly symmetrical. Variations in line thickness, spacing, pile and geometry are part of the artisan's hand and make the textile completely individual.
Once woven, the piece is carefully mounted inside a solid walnut wood frame. Walnut was chosen for its strength, durability, beautiful natural grain and timeless character. Its warm brown tone softens the black and ivory contrast and gives the artwork a refined, gallery-like presence.
A discreet hanging fixture is already installed on the back, so the artwork arrives ready to hang directly on the wall.
The result sits naturally between traditional Moroccan weaving, contemporary textile art and graphic wall art.
What It Brings to Your Home
This artwork brings pattern and character into an interior while remaining exceptionally easy to integrate.
Its black and ivory palette is timeless and versatile, allowing the geometric composition to stand out without relying on strong color. The light blue fringe introduces just enough contrast to make the piece feel unexpected and contemporary.
From a distance, the repeated diamonds and graphic motifs create the visual impact of an abstract drawing. Up close, the thick natural wool, changing pile and irregular handwoven lines reveal the human craftsmanship behind the piece.
The walnut frame adds warmth and prevents the monochromatic palette from feeling too stark.
It works beautifully in neutral interiors, where it can introduce pattern and texture, and is particularly effective alongside natural materials such as wood, stone, linen and plaster.
Displayed above a console, sideboard, bed or smaller sofa, it brings together the tactile warmth of Moroccan weaving and the graphic presence of contemporary art.
More Than Wall Art — A Human Connection
This collection was created by Kenza & Co as a new way of celebrating Moroccan rug weaving while preserving the human story behind every piece.
Each textile is slowly handwoven in our own cooperative by Amazigh women artisans using techniques and knowledge transmitted between generations. There is no industrial production, digital printing or mechanical repetition involved.
Every diamond, line and irregular detail reflects the hands and creative decisions of the woman who made it.
In this particular piece, the subtle differences between each geometric form make that human presence especially visible. The motifs are related, but never identical. Their proportions and spacing evolve naturally on the loom rather than following a digitally generated pattern.
By bringing the rug from the floor to the wall, these details become even more visible. The wool, geometry, changing texture and handmade fringe can be appreciated almost as you would study the surface and marks of an original artwork.
Through this creative project, we wanted to offer a contemporary expression of Moroccan textile art while continuing to support the artisans and families behind the craft and helping traditional weaving remain a living skill.
The use of natural sheep wool also maintains an important connection to the Moroccan landscape and to the materials that have sustained this textile tradition for generations.
Every textile develops differently on the loom, and every finished artwork is individually selected, mounted and framed.
